The settlement on the banks of the Garam River has historical roots dating back to prehistoric times. The town’s centuries-old cultural tradition was established by the Dessewffy and Eszterházy families, who established an estate centre in the settlement. It was also the birthplace of the great musician Franz Schubert and the father of the world-famous Sacher cake, Franz Sacher. Both are commemorated by a museum exhibition. If you are here, be sure to take a stroll through the park of the Eszterházy Castle. The castle is still to be renovated, but the park offers a relaxing place to relax, whether you go for a walk or a bike ride. The town still tries to maintain the cultural life of the past and offers a wide range of programmes. For those who want to relax in nature, there is the banks of the Garam, where fishing, hiking and picnics are possible.
